I am someone that loves to travel. I get a lot of anxiety about flying, but I don’t let it stop me from getting on a plane (even after have a full blown panic attack on one). Over the years, there are things I have found that have lowered my panic and anxiety while 35,000 feet in the air.
- Noise Cancelling Headphones
I have found that investing in true noise cancelling headphones helps tremendously. I am someone that hears every little strange sound on a plane and gets nervous. Noise cancelling headphones eliminates this anxiety provoking issue.
2. Create A “Plane Playlist”
I have a specific playlist on my phone titled “Plane Playlist”. All my favorite songs are on here, and I only included songs that tend to reduce my anxiety and put me in a good mood.
3. Download & Watch Your Favorite Comfort Show
Everyone has a comfort show that they watch over and over again- for me, one of those is How I Met Your Mother. For flights, I will download episodes of this show so I can watch it on the plane to calm me down.
4. Meditate/Focus On Your Breathing
Ten minutes of meditation can make a huge difference. To me, taking off is the worst part- during this time, I close my eyes and focus on my breathing.
Overall, I have found that I really need to distract myself to feel calm on an airplane- and that’s okay! Find what works for you- let me know in the comments if you have any tips that work well for you!
